Wiring a 3 Way Dimmer Switch - Ask-The-Electrician
Care should be taken in selecting your dimmer switch. Most dimmers are rated for 600 watts of power consumption, so if you have several light fixtures which will be controlled by the 3-way dimmer switch you will need to count the number of fixtures, the number of lamps per fixture and the watts per lamp.
Dimmer Switch Wiring - Electrical 101
Conventional Dimmer Wiring. With conventional dimmer wiring using NM cable, a NM cable supplies line voltage from the electrical panel to the dimmer outlet box. Another NM cable connects from this dimmer box to the light fixture box. Both line and neutral travel from the switch box to the light fixture box.
Installing LED compatible dimmer switch (wiring question)
With the right dimmer knob, control can be extremely fine. This signal goes to an amplifier which drives the LEDs proper, which run on low-voltage DC. If power is sourced at the lamp (as in your case), the AC->DC power supply is up there, as is the amplifier. The cable to the dimmer switch is simple Class II thermostat wiring.
