MANUAL CASE FAN CONTROL
How to Auto-Control Your PC’s Fans for Cool, Quiet Operation
Sure, you could connect a manual fan controller to your PC, with knobs that set fans to different speeds. But there’s nothing quite like automatic fan control, where your PC ramps up the fans when things get hot, and turn them down when it’s business as usual.
Control Your Computer's Fan Speeds for Better Performance
Many motherboards have fan control built-in to the BIOS settings these days, though they don't always give you as much control as something like SpeedFan does. But, if your computer isn't supported by SpeedFan, this is a good plan B. Open up your motherboard's BIOS settings

Computer fan control - Wikipedia
OverviewNeed for fan controlFan connectorsTypes of controlHardwareFan control is the management of the rotational speed of an electric fan. In computers, various types of computer fans are used to provide adequate cooling, and different fan control mechanisms balance their cooling capacities and noise they generate. This is commonly accomplished by the motherboards having hardware monitoring circuitry, which can be configured by the end-user through BIOS or other software to perform fan control.See more on enpedia · Text under CC-BY-SA license

BIOS overriding fan control. Some newer laptops have BIOS fan control in place which will override the OS level fan control. To test if this the case, run i8kmon with verbose mode in a command line, make sure the CPU is idle, then see if the fan is turned off or turned down accordingly.

DIY Fan Controller for PWM Fans - Overclockers
First Things FirstWhat Is PWM?PWM Controllers vs. PWM FansThe CircuitComponentsBuilding The CircuitDeveloping The CircuitFinal Thoughts and VideoThanksPWM stands for Pulse Width Modulation and is, among other things, a very clever means of controlling power to electrical devices: in our case a DC (direct current) fan motor. Although you don’t need to understand the ins and outs of PWM, it helps to have an rough idea about how PWM works, so here’s a very quick explanationk of a PWM signal as if it were a beating heart. Rather than being powered by a continuous supply of power (which would ordinarily be the case) our DC fan motor is bein..See more on overclockers
Best CPU fan control software? | AnandTech Forums
Whats the best software to control CPU fan speed? Speedfan does not work for CPU fans, I think it has to be plugged into the mobo case fan plug to mess with it. I was just wondering what everyone else uses.
SpeedFan: A Guide to Universal Motherboard Fan Control
In the Fan Control tab, check the "Advanced fan control" box to create a customized profile with the ability to adjust the entire fan speed curve for each fan. Click "Add" and give your controller a name (in our case "Test"), select a fan from the drop down menu and add the temperature that you wish to define its speed.
