Wiring L1 and L2 on a 240 Volt Motor - Ask the Electrician
Wire a 240 Volt Motor Electrical Question: What do the L1 L2 and T1 T2 wiring diagram abbreviations mean when wiring an electrical motor? My electrical wiring project involves wiring a 240volt motor. I am trying to run power to a 240volt electrical motor I bought but I do not know what the abbreviations mean and how to read the diagram that came with the new motor.

now the new switches have a COM, L1, L2 and Earth. It is just a single switch light, so is it as simple as RED into COM, BLUE into L1, ignore L2 and EARTH to EARTH terminal. Basically is the existing blue wire essentially a "switched live" like the instructions talk about or do I need a different type of switch to work with the old wiring?

Have you looked at the installation manual / wiring diagram ,that came with the hob ? There may already be a copper link joining L1 to L2 ,and another link joining N 1 to N2. Post pic of the terminal block and the wiring diagram so you can be given the correct advice.
