Use this little Hino FB diesel box truck maybe once every 6 months, It would start then crap out after a few minutes. Black grunge all over the prefilter, cranked right up after filter cleaned. Not your problem probably but a potential one for diesel fuel. Steve It is related to the fuel pump losing prime.

I have seen guys buy a tank of fuel and have the filter plug shortly after. If the fuel station got a load of bad fuel, or if had some water in it, I could sure believe plugging the filter in 15 miles. Loosing power and dieing out with no mention of anything else out of the ordinary makes me think a fuel problem would be very likely.
