Payroll Issue: When There Are 27 Pay Periods in a Year
Jerry is a salaried employee paid $28,000 a year, on a bi-weekly pay basis. Each pay period during a "normal" year of 26 pay periods, he receives $1076. But if there is an extra pay period in a year, he would receive an extra paycheck, more than his actual salary.

But if it pays the employee that same $3,846 in each of 27 bi-weekly pay periods in 2015, it would end up paying the employee $103,846 in 2015 – not the $100,000 salary it had agreed to pay. And that would be true of every exempt employee paid in that manner.
The Pay Period Leap Year: Handling an Extra Pay Period in 2015
For instance, if you pay an employee $52,000 per year, you would pay him or her $1,000 in each of 52 weekly pay periods or $2,000 in each of 26 bi-weekly pay periods. If you change nothing, in a Pay Period Leap Year, you would pay the employee $53,000 over 53 weekly pay periods (a 2% raise) or $54,000 over 27 bi-weekly pay periods (a 4% raise).
